In Conversation with Atom Egoyan | Special Live Webinar for Toronto Film School Students

Two-time Academy Award-nominated writer/director Atom Egoyan will spend 90 minutes with Toronto Film School students for a live conversation and Q&A session over Zoom this week.

Hosted by Toronto Film School’s Executive Producer in Residence Andrew Barnsley and Writing for Film & Television Program Director Adam Till, the session with Egoyan will take place on Thursday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m.

Following an hour-long, interview-style discussion with the acclaimed Canadian filmmaker about his origins and path to success, Barnsley and Till will then open the floor to students for a 30-minute Q&A opportunity.

Widely recognized as one of the most celebrated contemporary filmmakers on the international scene, Egoyan’s body of work – which also includes theatre, music, and art installations – delves into issues of memory, displacement, and the impact of technology and media on modern life.

Egoyan has won numerous prizes at international film festivals including the Grand Prix and International Critics Awards from the Cannes Film Festival, two Academy Award nominations, and numerous other honours. His films have won twenty-five Genies – including three Best Film Awards – and a prize for Best International Film Adaptation from The Frankfurt Book Fair.

Best known for his unconventional and non-linear approach to tackling such complex themes, Egoyan’s notable films include: The Sweet Hereafter, which earned him two Oscar nods in 1997 for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay; Exotica, which won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival; Chloe, his biggest commercial hit starring Julianne Moore, Liam Neeson, and Amanda Seyfried; and The Captive, which received a Palme D’or nomination at Cannes in 2014.

Egoyan also won the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement and was named both a Companion of the Order of Canada and a Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la France.
