Future of Connection Explored in TFS’s Production of Rosamund Small’s ‘TomorrowLove’

TomorrowLove

Canadian playwright Rosamund Small has given a cast of aspiring actors from Toronto Film School the greenlight to bring her 2016 collection, TomorrowLove, to the stage.

Directed by Dora Award winner Andy Massingham, the company of fifth-term Acting for Film, TV & the Theatre students will tackle nine of the 15 titles in the “daring, mysterious, funny and at times unsettling” cycle of plays during their three-performance run of TomorrowLove at the Papermill Theatre later this month.

“We are taking you on a journey into the future; it might be tomorrow, or it might be years from now,” Massingham said of the 75-minute production.

“What links all the plays is a yearning to connect, and that ‘advanced’ technology may not solve the eternal struggle of bringing us closer together. It is a provocative and incredibly timely work.”

Described by Massingham as a “richly rewarding” experience for all involved – including himself – TFS’s production of TomorrowLove gave each of its 15 student cast members “a chance to stretch out and examine not only the challenges of working live, but keeping intimacy and vulnerability key in the journey of the work.”

TomorrowLove asks much of the actor and has, in turn, greatly enriched my own growth as a theatre artist,” said the 35-year stage veteran, who currently teaches acting, clown and movement at TFS.

“To my wonderful 5A company, my eternal thanks for jumping off the deep end and embracing this vital work!

TomorrowLove, which is stage managed by Reza Arzhang, will take to the stage at the Papermill Theatre for a three-performance run on December 19, 20 and 21 as follows:

  • Thursday, December 19 at 5:30 p.m.
  • Friday, December 20 at 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 21 at 3:30 p.m.

The Papermill Theatre is located at Todmorden Mills67 Pottery Rd. Tickets are free and available at the door.
