Fashion Design Takes on Mannequin Challenge and More Program News

Who better to replicate mannequins than fashion industry experts and students? So, in December Toronto Film School Fashion Design students jumped on the latest viral internet trend and did an impromptu “mannequin challenge” video. It took only one take to achieve and yes everybody stood perfectly still, and we had a great time doing it. Have a look at the results.

 

The Fashion Design students had some great guest speakers this term:

Alumni Carly Stoijic, came to give a trend presentation to both the Fashion Design and the Marketing for Fashion and Entertainment students. Carly is known throughout the industry as a trend guru and expert in the areas of trend research and analysis. if you need to know what’s will be hot in fashion next, Carly is the person to explain it. As a graduate of the Toronto Film School, she had very important information to share with the students, about life after fashion school, and what to expect at your first job. She also had great insight into starting your own brand, and how to use trends create a differentiate yourself from all the other brands

Roslyn Griffith Hall is a celebrity stylist that has dressed everybody. She has styled editorials, commercials, even reality shows. Recently, she spoke to Toronto Film School students all about her career, how she got started, what is like being an in-demand stylist and her daily experiences. She also talked about working as a street photographer and taking pictures of street looks at all the different fashion weeks.

 

Next term, and of course 2017 promises some exciting events, competitions, fashion shows, awards. Happy New year 2017

Keith Richardson is the Core Faculty for the Fashion Design Program at Toronto Film School. Keith spent 10 years working in Miami, for numerous sportswear companies, and after returning to Toronto, began to teach at the Academy of Design. Keith has won numerous awards for his work in fashion, he continues to design and has published a textbook “Introduction to Stretch” a patternmaking manual for knits and stretch fabrics.
