The Film Student TV – My Brother Said

In episode 3 of The Film Student, this week was comedy week as the Toronto Film School judges decided to favor Armen Bunag’s heartfelt comedy “My Brother Said”, over Sam Leskinen’s paranormal comedy “A Comic End”. After getting the greenlight for production, Armen found that delivering a convincing pitch may have been the least of her worries. For her short film about a young boy’s quest to attract the new girl using dating advice for adults, Armen learned to work with child actors and pushed through several obstacles.

Child actors present a unique opportunity for budding directors to direct talent that is very natural and honest with their performance. While children can have short attention spans, Armen was able to engage with her cast and keep their enthusiasm levels high. The professionalism of the children really does shine in the short-film’s behind-the-scenes footage.

Armen is an incredibly organized individual and her pre-production work impressed instructors Hart and Yale Massey. Despite a few pitfalls (mainly the audio director dropping out last minute) Armen proved herself as a patient individual and worked with her team to get the job done.
