Welcome to 2015: A Guest Blog from Film Production’s Christopher Lane

Welcome to 2015! The New Year offers us endless possibilities, the chance to reflect and offers a renewed sense of hope and an opportunity for positive change—and there is a great deal of change coming our way at the Toronto Film School (TFS). We look forward to taking on new challenges and directions as we continue to grow.
Some of you may already know that we have several new diploma programs joining the TFS banner including Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing and Mechandising, Video Game Design and Development, Video Game Design and Animation, Graphic Design and Interactive Media and last but not least Interior Decorating.
If you are a filmmaker, like I am, you certainly can see what a wonderful opportunity this will be as we work together to integrate the talents and skills of the students of those programs with our projects such as a titling component with the Graphic Design students, which we will be introducing shortly.
Also, we are currently updating programs and making additions that will continue to rank us as one of the premiere film schools in Canada.
I’d like to take a moment and welcome all the new students to our family. Returning students and faculty, please take the time to make our new colleagues feel at home. And of course a hearty congratulations to our current crop of graduating students who continue to make us proud. I would like to say good luck and congratulations to Rick Bennett whose new role here at TFS is to deal with Special Projects. Let’s thank Rick for all the dedication and hard work he has contributed to our Film Program through the years.
Please welcome new instructor Terry Myers who will be taking over Production 2: Marketing and Promotional Media. Terry brings with him a wealth of experiences and expertise, feel free to pick his brain!
Congratulations to our official greenlit official projects (Capstone Projects). We look forward to working closely with you to help realize your vision and take it to the next level!
TFS’s relationship with TIFF continues to flourish as students from all campuses have been taking advantage of the unique opportunities to attend the TIFF Higher Learning symposiums. Our consistent participation has not gone unnoticed and we have been invited to attend many other events including private screenings, cocktail parties, lectures and the “In Conversation” series starting with Keanu Reeves. We are also currently putting together a film with TIFF and their Reel Comfort initiative, which is very exciting news.
To find out what events are taking place at TIFF that you can attend, visit the bulletin board for posters- see or email me to reserve tickets to any of the upcoming events.
I have just accepted a new book deal detailing the career of William Friedkin which now makes three books on the go and so I am currently employing two TFS graduates as researchers. There will also be a new cooking series entitled “Busy Cooking” airing in a few weeks, which heavily featured the talents of the Toronto Film School.
With the rapid amount of success stories being reported it makes it difficult to list each and every one individually. Please know that we are proud of all of our students, faculty and alumni.
As always, I wish you success in the coming term and know that my door is always open for a drop in!
