Toronto Film School Hosts Creativity & Community: A Special Panel Discussion in Recognition of Black History Month
Toronto Film School will host a special Black History Month panel discussion this week entitled Creativity & Community.
Hosted by Acting for Film, TV & the Theatre instructor Andrew Moodie, the online event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. (EST).
The discussion’s panel includes Writing for Film & TV grads Caleigh Bacchus and Jhanik Bullard, both of whom are active volunteers with BIPOC TV & Film – a grassroots nonprofit organization and collective of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour in Canada’s TV and film industry.
About the Panelists:
Andrew Moodie (Host)
Ontario-based actor/playwright/director Andrew Moodie exploded onto the scene in 1995 with his first play, Riot. As an actor, he has performed in countless productions all across the country – including Our Country’s Good, Better Living, The Second Sheppard’s Play, Macbeth, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Amadeus, Whale, Alice, Pinocchio, In the Field of Dream, The Nelson Mandela Story, Health Class, The Incredible Speediness of Jamie Cavanaugh, Nathan the Wise, Hamlet, Master Harold and the Boys, Othello, and Shakespeare in the Rough. On television, Moodie was the host of TVO’s Big Ideas from 2006 to 2011, and had made appearances in many shows, including CBC’s Being Erica, Lifetime’s Reviving Ophelia, Global’s Da Kink in My Hair, and a recurring role on USA’s Covert Affairs. Moodie has also appeared in many films, including the Oscar-nominate Away From Her, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Total Recall, and Race, a story about the life of Jesse Owens.
Caleigh Bacchus (2018 Writing for Film & Television Valedictorian)
Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, Caleigh Bacchus has worked in the writer’s room for Murdoch Mysteries produced by Shaftsbury, Diggstown produced by Circle Blue Media, and development projects produced by Marblemedia Productions, Project 10 Productions, Conquering Lion Productions and Hungry Eyes Productions.She has also written a feature film script named Paralysis for Conquering Lion Productions. Lastly, Bacchus is developing a show with Project 10.
Jhanik Bullard (2018 Writing for Film & Television graduate)
Jhanik Bullard is a motivated and passionate screenwriter who is interested in expanding his knowledge of self and others to create worlds yet seen. His preference for his scripts are drama centric while showcasing the full kaleidoscope of this human experience by amplifying his BIPOC and LGBT characters. Born in the warm and picturesque tropics of The Bahamas, but he now lives in the vibrant city of Toronto, Canada. Bullard graduated with honours from Toronto Film School in the Writing for Film and Television Program (2018). He’s worked with Hungry Eyes Media as a Story Coordinator for one of their developing series, and as a Script Coordinator on a network series. Bullard currently works as a Showrunner’s Assistant on Coroner for CBC. He is a member of the Visioning Committee for BIPOC TV & FILM in the capacity of Treasurer.
