Kyle Reaume’s Battle Cry Marks TFS Grad’s Fifth Consecutive Film At Inside Out Fest

Toronto Film School graduate Kyle Reaume recently made his fifth consecutive appearance on the rainbow carpet at Toronto’s Inside Out Festival.

The Film Production Diploma alumnus was on hand at TIFF Bell Lightbox on May 29 for the annual LGBT film festival’s screening of his latest documentary, Battle Cry.

The 15-minute short, which was screened alongside five others in the Shorts: Real and Spectacular program, follows Pearle Harbour – Toronto’s “most cerebral” drag queen – behind the scenes as she prepares to take the stage at the world’s largest and longest-running queer theatre company.

“I’m so excited, because this is not only the Canadian, but also the hometown premiere for my short doc, Battle Cry, which stars the unparalleled Justin Miller,” Reaume said of the man behind Pearle Harbour, who accompanied him to the screening.

“I was so lucky enough to catch him in his process when he was doing his show last year during Pride Month at Buddies in Bad Times (Theatre), which is such a historic location. It was really a treat to get to shoot there, and to get to see what he does.”

Battle Cry marked Reaume’s fifth consecutive film to be showcased at the Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival. His previous entries included What Makes Me A Woman (2015), Ecstasy (2016), What About Shelley (2017), and Vertical Lines (2018).

Battle Cry previously screened at Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival, the 2019 BFI Flare: The London LGBT Film Festival, and Wicked Queer: The Boston LGBT Film Festival.

Next up, it’s headed overseas to make its premiere at KASHISH Mumbai Queer Film Festival on June 12.
