Toronto Film School Presents “Our Country’s Good”

Fifth term Acting for Film, Television and the Theatre students from the Toronto Film School will star in a production of “Our Country’s Good”.

Directed by Caroline Smith, “Our Country’s Good” is set in the 18th century, England, when in an attempt to solve its massive criminal problem convicts were shipped to Australia. This was not only an attempt to rid England of less-desirable persons “for our country’s good” but to also colonize new territory.

This brilliant play by Australian playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker is an adaptation of the Thomas Keneally novel The Playmaker, which is in-turn based on actual journals and other written accounts from that settlement.

“Our Country’s Good” will be staged at the Pia Bouman Theatre, at Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement at 6 Noble St, in Toronto’s downtown west end. Tickets are free. The play will be staged on Friday September 12 at 8 p.m.,Saturday September 13 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
