Behind the Scenes at Toronto Men’s Fashion Week with Marketing Grad, Luna Lindsay
In the Fall of last year, while enrolled in the Marketing for Fashion & Entertainment Diploma at Toronto Film School, I was given the opportunity to attend Toronto Men’s Fashion Week. Surrounding myself with women’s fashion on the daily, I was super excited to check out what pieces will be trending for the boys come spring.
My first thought was what was I going to wear for the two evenings I would be attending. I’ve been head over heels for the pantsuit trend that has taken off this year, and found myself surrounded by multiple options in Zara. It’s funny how pieces we never thought we’d see ourselves wearing all of a sudden end up in our wardrobe. To break up my first look I wore a metallic double-breasted jacket, black denim, zip-up velvet block heals, and accessorized with one of my wide brimmed hats & a mini metallic crossbody bag.
For the Saturday show I decided to rock my pantsuit from Zara, layered with a lace bodysuit & paired with my snakeskin boots & studded suede crossbody bag.
Getting to sit front row with Toronto Film School I had a great view to check out the SS18 collections. Between shows was the perfect time to mingle & network with others in the fashion industry. I also had the chance to discuss the power of social media & the importance of using a powerful platform to express your creativity & passions in an interview at TOM.
After a weekend filled with amazing pieces & talented designers, I went through all the collections & rounded up my favourite pieces & trends. Hip & Bone creates badass contemporary street style pieces; I especially love their beautifully constructed leather jackets.
Get Fresh Company was bursting with matching sets and I’m obsessed. Silky satin & velvet textiles equipped with all my favourite colours for spring, they truly up any man’s street style game.
Always a sucker for a good suit I rounded up my top six. Designers included Lucas Stowe, Finezza, Shelli Oh, Helmer, & Ocean Rebel. I adore the look of a perfectly fitted suit & how you can break some pieces up for a more casual look. Dusty blue is a colour men will be finding in their wardrobes this coming spring. My favourite suite was Lucas Stowe’s; a silky blazer coat with printed shorts had my dreaming of the warm weather to come.
I dedicate my final favourite looks completely to Hendrixroe. How did I not know about this designer, I am COMPLETELY obsessed. Vintage rock & roll & old Hollywood glamour icons Jimmy Hendrix & Marilyn Monroe designer Jordan Erin Mckay embodies the epitome of glamour rock couture through her pieces. The fringe, the metallics, convertible pieces, snake prints and more, Hendrixroe is now one on of my favourite Canadian designers. I also loved the overall vibes of the catwalk. Each model was embracing their chosen look and serving straight up rock and roll down the runway.
Thank you Toronto Film School for taking me to Toronto Men’s Fashion week, an amazing experience and an event I plan on attending throughout my Toronto life!
