TFS Film Production Grad Nikita Morris Wins 2019 Emerging Lens Scholarship
Toronto Film School alumnus Nikita Morris was recently announced as the recipient of the 2019 Emerging Lens Pitch to Script Scholarship.
The Truro, Nova Scotia native graduated from TFS’s Film Production Diploma in 2018, and submitted a short film she made during her studies in the 18-month program to win the scholarship.
“When I was a kid I watched movies and I was fascinated with the world you could make and how you can affect people’s emotions,” Morris said in an interview with her hometown newspaper, The Truro News.
“I like to make metaphorical stuff; things that make you think, but when I’m watching films I like family movies and comedies.”
According to the Truro News story, the Emerging Lens scholarship will provide Morris with all the funding needed to create a new short film, which she hopes to shoot in Truro over the next year.
Produced by the Charles Taylor Theatre and Media Arts Association, the Emerging Lens Film Festival marked its 10th anniversary in Halifax this past April. Over the course of its decade-long history, the festival has aimed to “educate, empower and inspire by honouring the influence of African Canadian and other cultural filmmakers, playwrights and artists.”
