Year after year, faculty and alumni from Toronto Film School are credited in numerous Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) movies. Here’s a round-up of who had a major involvement at this year’s 2012 line-up. From romantic comedies, to dramatic feature films, to artistic shorts, our talented faculty and alumni have worked them all.
My Awkward Sexual Adventure
Directed by Sean Garrity
TFS faculty member, Jonas Chernick, not only produced and wrote the hilarious screenplay for this awkward and oddly educational sex comedy, but he also stars in it.
Synopsis
A hyper-repressed and schlubby accountant (Jonas Chernick) strikes a deal with a worldly but disorganized stripper (Emily Hampshire): he’ll help her with her crushing debt if she helps him become a better lover. Sharp direction by the versatile Sean Garrity and a very funny script by Chernick ensure for an uproarious — and surprisingly educational — sex comedy.

Faculty member, Joe Alonzi teams up with acclaimed short filmmaker Dylan Reibling to produce this artful look at the threat of human obsolescense.
Synopsis
Acclaimed short filmmaker Dylan Reibling returns to the Festival with this playful look at the ongoing battle for supremacy between man and machine.

Broken Heart Syndrome
Directed by Dusty Mancinelli
Cinematography for this beautiful film that explores the fate of a man who is actually diagnosed with “broken heart syndrome” (a deadly condition) is credited to TFS faculty member, Maya Bankovic. Student, Chris Reilly, was also involved with the film and fulfilled the role of assistant camera.
Synopsis
Unceremoniously dumped by his girlfriend during sex, Russ is diagnosed with a rare — and fatal — disease known as BHS (Broken Heart Syndrome), and desperately searches for a cure.

When I Saw You
Directed by Lamma Shoftak
Zain Duraie, a graduate from Toronto Film School’s Film Production program, worked on “When I Saw You” as a director trainee, and as a second assistant camera.
Synopsis
Jordan, 1967: displaced to a refugee camp after the occupation of their West Bank village, an eleven-year old boy and his mother enact the emancipating dream that every refugee has imagined countless times, in Annemarie Jacir’s passionate and moving follow-up to her prize-winning debut Salt of This Sea.
