An update from Film Production: Guest Blog by Christopher Lane

Fall is here, the leaves are changing the weather is getting brisk, hockey is back and with all this comes a renewed academic outlook!

At Toronto Film School, we welcome the new and eager group of individuals that joined us this term. I would also like to extend hearty congratulations to our talented graduating students. It has been a great honour to participate in the beginning of your journey and we hope that you keep in touch! Let’s also welcome our newest faculty member, Connie Contardi, who will be teaching Factual Entertainment, please make her feel at home.

Our Second Annual Toronto Film School Festival of Films was a rousing success and showcased more than 40 projects made by our brilliant student body. The event was held at the Cineplex Theatres with the award ceremony presented in the exclusive VIP theatres. Afterwards everyone was treated to a fun reception and after party held in the VIP lounge. The festival continues to grow in leaps and bounds and the quality of work displayed is true testament to our student’s dedication and their determination to succeed. Congratulations to all who participated and to those who walked away with various awards.

In recent weeks there have been several success stories regarding our students and faculty. Ben Turnball’s film Ruler of the Roost has been wildly successful on the film festival circuit, playing in festivals all around the world including San Francisco, Scotland, Estonia, British Colombia, Montreal and winning best film in Hamilton and at the Wild Sound Film Festival here in Toronto.

Many of our grads continue to impress. Prasanna Paul has recently directed a national Tim Horton’s campaign. Dean Senecal has fit in nicely as camera crew on several blockbuster films and television series.

We have recently entered into an affiliation with TIFF Higher Learning, a division of the Toronto International Film Festival, whereby we will be bringing you many events that you can participate in, free of charge, throughout the year.

These will be posted around the campus as they are made available, also please visit our blog on the Toronto Film School website to learn more. Please attend these and immerse yourself in the world of film, and learn all it has to offer—this is your community, support it!
