Toronto Film School Students Pack December with Free Stage Productions
This December the Toronto Film School has a packed calendar of plays, which they are presenting for free to the public.
From Dec. 16 to 20 you will have the opportunity to take in one, or more, of nine productions by Toronto Film School students in the Acting for Film, TV and the Theatre Diploma program.
At Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement, 6 Noble St. in Parkdale, students will stage three productions each of Six Characters in Search of an Author, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Love’s Fire.
Six Characters in Search of an Author tells the story of an acting company as it prepares to rehearse a play. As the rehearsal is about to begin, they are unexpectedly interrupted by the arrival of six strange people.
The Director of the play, furious at the interruption, demands an explanation. The leader of the group explains they are unfinished characters in search of an author to finish their story.
Six Characters in Search of an Author will be staged on Tuesday, Dec. 16. at 8 p.m., Friday Dec. 19 at 5 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 20 at 9 p.m.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a Shakespearean comedy dealing with love, magic and miscommunication in an Athenian forest at night. Our production will pay particular attention to the troubling sexism and misogyny inherent in the play (design-wise, identified by dressing the men in all black and the women in all white, creating a stark binary representation of the genders) as well as making use of the fantastical elements of having a forest filled with spritely fairy characters.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be staged on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 20 at 5 p.m.

Finally, Love’s Fire, a production that re-imagines seven of Shakespeare’s immortal love sonnets as one-act plays by seven of the best playwrights in North America. They speak of the triumphs and tragedies of love, defying the constraints of time and twisting the borders of gender.
Love’s Fire hits the stage at Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 19 at 9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.
