Marketing Students See History Come to Life at ROM: Guest Blog by Ita David

Last Monday wasn’t your average History of Fashion class for students in the Marketing for Fashion and Entertainment Diploma program at Toronto Film School. Instead of sitting at desks, students headed to one of this country’s most notable museums of art, world culture and natural history, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in downtown Toronto.

It was an exciting adventure that brought history to life, and TFS Marketing student Ita David, captured it all in some beautiful photos.

“We went through the Viva la Mexico clothing and culture exhibit along with the Rome, Greek and Egyptian galleries. We ended off with the European galleries which takes you through the style of Europe from the Middle Ages to the 20th century,” Ita explained.  “We had to do a little assignment while we were there which added to the information that we were able to gather about these galleries and exhibits.”

Ita shares her photos and some thoughts on them here:

This photo is from the Viva la Mexico exhibit. The costumes/fashion are so detailed and have such bright and beautiful colors, along with being handmade. Incredible.

One more photo from the Viva la Mexico – these dresses show the exquisite artistry and the history of Mexico.

Here is one of the statues in the Rome gallery where we looked at the draping and how it changed throughout the years and different countries. We talked about how these styles are incorporated into the fashion in the 21st century.

One of my favourite things, other than the actual exhibits and galleries was the interior decor and design of the museum. The geometric shapes and discord they have inside (and out) add so much to the experience

The outside look is not only followed inside throughout the museum, but it adds to the whole street and the city.

Getting hands-on in the Egyptian gallery, hanging out with the mummies while checking out their fashion.

All in all, our Monday was a lot more exciting than the regular day. Thanks TFS and our instructor James Fowler for an awesome experience!
